MOHELA Federal Student Loan Transfer & Account Migration Guide
Navigate MOHELA student loan account transfers, PSLF tracking transitions to StudentAid.gov, billing updates, and contact protocols.
MOHELA's Role in Federal Student Loan Administration
The Missouri Higher Education Loan Authority (MOHELA) is a state-created entity and one of the largest federal loan servicers in the country. MOHELA gained national visibility when the Department of Education designated it as the sole servicer for the Public Service Loan Forgiveness (PSLF) and Teacher Loan Forgiveness programs following FedLoan Servicing's departure.
In 2024, Federal Student Aid transitioned direct PSLF payment count tracking and form processing in-house onto StudentAid.gov, while MOHELA continues to service day-to-day billing, auto-debits, and customer accounts.
MOHELA Portal Migration (mohela.com vs. mohela.studentaid.gov)
Borrowers serviced by MOHELA underwent an internal technical platform migration. If your account was migrated to the new Department of Education-hosted system, you must log in at mohela.studentaid.gov using your updated credentials.
Track your public service progress with our in-house PSLF Milestone Tracker & Calculator to verify remaining payments.
